Members of Lodge 1555 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers Monday struck Renold-Ajax Inc. after their three-year contract expired at midnight Sunday.

Q.G. Best, union president, said that negotiations were held though Friday. The company presented its last offer at that time. The union voted on Saturday. A union member said the vote was two-thirds against the offer. Benefits and seniority are the sticking points, according to a union member.

According to the union, the company's attorney suggested a two-week wait before negotiations continued.

The plant has 60-70 union members and manufactures power transmission equipment, conveyor systems, gear couplers and other equipment used in steel companies and transit systems.
