Matthew W. Papierz, a retired chemical operator, died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
Papierz, 80, of Harper Drive, was born in Niagara Falls. He moved to Poland with his family as an infant and returned to Niagara Falls in 1939. He had attended schools in Poland.
He and his wife of nearly 57 years, the former Irene Mis, moved to Lewiston in 1975.
Papierz worked as a chemical operator for E.I. du Pont de Nemours in Niagara Falls for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He worked in the receiving department at Tops Supermarket from 1985 to 1990.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls and of its seniors citizens group, Holy Name Society, ushers club and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a member of Council 247 of the Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
In addition to his wife, Papierz is survived by a son, Gerald of Blasdell; a daughter, Priscilla DeDeyn of Niagara Falls; two sisters in Poland; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1419 Falls St., Niagara Falls, following prayers at 9 in Labuda Funeral Home, 356 Portage Road, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston.
