Family ties and the search for ancestral roots will be the focus of an all-day statewide meeting and genealogy workshop Oct. 23 at Hamburg High School.
The event will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Western New York Genealogical Society, and will be co-sponsored by the New York State Council of
Workshops will provide tips and guidance for newcomers interested in exploring their family history, as well as experienced genealogical researchers. Topics will include local and international research, surname derivation, little-known information sources, and using maps and records.
The workshop, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Legion Road high school, will be followed by a dinner at the Holiday Inn, 5440 Camp Road, Hamburg. James Bolles, past president of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, will discuss the meanings behind nursery rhymes and legends in
genealogy and family history.
