A year after confessing to sin and apologizing for the scandal involving Monica S. Lewinsky, President Clinton said today he has been moved deeply "by the pure power of grace" and forgiveness from his family, associates and others.
"Last year was one of the most difficult years in my life," he told ministers at his annual prayer breakfast. "This occasion, because of what it has come to mean to me, was a very difficult one."
At the same event last September, a moist-eyed Clinton apologized for the scandal that later led to his impeachment and acquittal.
Today, he thanked people he said helped him, including his wife, daughter and ministers who kept a promise to meet with him.
