A motorist escaped injury Monday morning by backing away from a village intersection where a dump truck reportedly lost its brakes, village police said.
Three truck drivers were slightly injured in a collision involving two dump trucks and a tractor-trailer just before 10:30 a.m.
Police said a dump truck driven by David J. Smith, 66, of Genesee Road, failed to stop at the stop sign on Bixby Hill Road and collided with another dump truck being driven on Main Street by David Polmanteer, 34, of Arcade.
Witnesses told police that Smith's dump truck entered the intersection traveling at between 30 and 40 mph. Smith told police he lost air in his brake system.
Following the collision with the other dump truck, the Smith truck continued across the intersection onto West Street and into a store parking lot, narrowly missing a motorist stopped on West Street.
Polmanteer's truck was pushed sideways into the curb lane, where it was hit by a tractor-trailer also heading west on Main Street, police said. The rig was driven by Robert J. Turybury, 24, of Bolivar.
All three truck drivers were released after being treated in area hospitals.
