The Rev. Alan S. Merrill, 70, a Baptist minister and former dairy farmer, died Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) in the Bliss home of his son after a brief illness.
Born in Sandusky, Ohio, Mr. Merrill operated a dairy farm with his mother and brother for several years before entering the ministry.
During his 36 years in the ministry, he served at Rawson Baptist Church, Folsomdale Baptist Church, Black Creek Independent Fundamental Church and Rock Glen Baptist Church.
Upon his retirement in 1994, Mr. Merrill served as a supply minister and interim pastor for several Baptist churches, including Hunt Baptist Church.
Mr. Merrill was affiliated with the Conservative Baptist Association and the Intercounty Bible Baptist Fellowship. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Perry.
Surviving in addition to his son, Mark, are his wife of 41 years, Ruby Ames Merrill; three daughters, Diane Stephenson of Newport, Maine, Lois Peters of Carol Stream, Ill., and Kathleen Golde; a brother, Keith of Geneseo; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Baptist Church of Perry, 77 N. Main St., Perry.
