About 500 students from 75 high schools in Erie and Niagara counties will observe National Kids Voting Day during a half-day conference on voting behavior and civic responsibility to be held Oct. 18 at the University at Buffalo.
The event, to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the UB North Campus in Amherst, is being coordinated by Kids Voting Western New York, a nonpartisan voter-education program to energize future voters in the Buffalo area.
Student participants will listen to speakers, view a Kids Voting video, be polled on issues of interest to them and exchange political views.
Main sponsor of the conference is UB's office of public service and urban affairs.
Kids Voting Western New York is part of the national organization, Kids Voting USA. It is based at The Buffalo News.
