John Rosemond, psychologist, best-selling author and newspaper columnist, will be in Buffalo next weekend to present seminars of interest to parents.
On Saturday at Maryvale High School, 1050 Maryvale Drive, Cheektowaga, he will speak on "Ending the Homework Hassle" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Parents will learn the fundamentals of homework management with creative strategies to motivate an underachieving child and to return school responsibilities to the child in ways that promote achievement, autonomy and self-esteem. It's geared for parents of elementary students through high school.
The second session that day, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., called "Take Control of Your Family, Take Control of Your Kids," will discuss the busy-ness that displaces a commitment to the family along with the effects on the family of losing its center, starving for quality time and disruption of intimacy.
Then, on Sunday, at the WNED Studio, 140 Lower Terrace, Rosemond will present "Assuming the Power of Parenthood" from 1 to 2:30 p.m. He will advise parents on how to position themselves at the center of the family as well as sending signals that they expect their children to obey.
The final talk, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., will be on "Teen-Proofing: Understanding and Managing Your Teen-ager," which will provide an explanation of this developmental stage as well as skills to take the "terribles" out of the teen years.
Independent Health and The Buffalo News are sponsoringRosemond's appearance. Cost is $12 per seminar or $20 for one day. To charge by phone, call 849-4491.
