Western New York Independent Living Project Inc. will put the frosting on the football -- and there probably will be cake, too -- when it sponsors "Tailgate '99" Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the University at Buffalo North Campus stadium, as a prelude to the Buffalo Bulls-Northern Illinois Huskies game that starts at 7.
Jay Friedman and Sharon Scheur are chairmen of the fund-raiser, and honorary chairmen are Elayne and Philip Wels. Eric Clauss is corporate chairman. Drew Kahn of WKBW-Channel 7's "AM Buffalo" will be master of ceremonies for the party.
Among the features will be a showing of antique cars, an auction, music, Bulls cheerleaders and mascot, and prizes. A "gourmet feast" will be provided by such restaurants as Bing's, Cafe in the Square, Caffe Aroma, Cameo's, Carriage Trade Pastries, Creekview, Hutch's, Lebro's, Ripa's, May Jen Chinese, Marco's, La Riviera, Tandoori's, the UB Faculty-Student Association and Warren's.
Proceeds from each $50 donation will benefit agencies that serve the project's non-residential assistance programs for individuals with multiple disabilities and their families.
Action for Mental Health, Native American Independent Living Services, programs for individual consumer and health needs, support and community services such as information lines, voter registration and architectural barrier consultation are among the project's programs.
Corporate sponsors are Business First, HSBC Bank USA, WGR-AM 55, WKBW-TV Channel 7, Lake Erie Recycling, New Rosen Printing, Printing Prep, M & T Bank, Empire State News, Jenss, G & R Tent Rental, Gibraltar Steel, Scott Aviation, Ingram Micro Inc. and Adelphia.
