A Franklinville man was behind bars with bail set at $5,000 after Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies accused him of sexually abusing a child younger than 11.

The Sheriff's Criminal Bureau charged William A. Potter, 55, of 2949 Cooney Road with first-degree sexual abuse after arresting him Friday.

Deputies refused Saturday to provide any other details or say when the alleged incident took place but did say the situation remained under investigation and more charges might be forthcoming.

Potter was arraigned in Franklinville Town Court and ordered held in Cattaraugus County Jail.
