Loren Peters, 80, of Irving Street, a retired auto mechanic, died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Peters, who was known as Pete, was born in Royalton and he graduated from the former Gasport High School and Alfred Technical Institute.
Peters was awarded a Purple Heart while serving in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a member of First Baptist Church. He also was active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Susan Dunkelberger; a daughter, Rebecca Peters of Grand Island; a son, Jay of West Bloomfield, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, 140 Genesee St. Burial in Cold Springs Cemetery will be private.
