Services were held today for Philip Zipkin, founder of the Batavia Iron and Metal Co.
Zipkin, 80, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) in United Memorial Medical Center after being stricken at work.
He served in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II and was a member of Venesee-Strollo Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El, a 32nd degree Mason of Lodge 910 in Rochester and a member for more than 50 years of the Batavia Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ida Cohen; a son, Arne; a daughter, Barbara Z. Jones of Attica; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
