A benefit for Thomas Taber, who was seriously injured by flying debris when the rim of a racing tire he was inflating fragmented, will be held Sunday afternoon at the Fire Hall and Town Hall.
The Aug. 22 accident shattered Taber's left leg and broke his left arm. He has had extensive surgery at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and faces some bone grafts to strengthen his leg.
Taber teaches automotive repair technology at Alfred State College and is a race car driver. He plans to return to teaching at the Wellsville campus in January.
While his medical insurance covers many of his expenses, Taber said he and his family are discovering many that are not.
Belfast firefighters are donating a chicken barbecue, others are donating food, a local band is to play and his daughter Angel said activities will go on all afternoon.
Some of Taber's auto racing associates plan a car show in the park across from the fire station during the benefit, Taber said.
