A funeral Mass for Robert John Wolmering, 73, of Sanford, N.C., a former Buffalo resident and retired Westinghouse Electric Corp. executive, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Sanford.
Wolmering, who was born in Dunkirk, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) in his home in the Sanford golfing community of Carolina Trace.
He was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and served in the Navy aboard during World War II.
After the war, he attended Duke University, receiving a degree in electrical engineering in 1951. He received his MBA from the University of Buffalo in 1955.
Wolmering worked in various capacities -- engineering, purchasing, financial control and planning -- during his 32 years with Westinghouse until his retirement in 1984. He then moved to Carolina Trace to pursue one of his hobbies, golfing.
During his retirement, he was an active Duke alumnus as well as a member of International Executive Services. He offered his business expertise in the countries of Indonesia, Moldova and, recently, in Macedonia, helping companies westernize their business operations.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Henrietta Banikowski; a daughter, Beth Garza of Brownsville, Texas; two sons, Greg of Clarence and David of New Albany, Ohio; a sister, Marilyn Nalepa of Dunkirk; a brother, Arthur of Dunkirk; and six grandchildren.
