LOCKPORT MAN ACCUSED OF HOLDING WOMAN CAPTIVE

Police arrested a man Monday for allegedly holding a woman friend captive in his home and mistreating her.

Gary L. Chapman Jr., 26, of Orchard Street was charged with unlawful imprisonment and menacing.

Police said the woman, who was asleep on the couch, was awakened at 3 a.m. by a hot cigarette lighter that was pressed to her leg. She told officers that they argued and Chapman repeatedly prevented her from calling the police by grabbing and throwing her on the couch and cupping his hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream.

Neighbors nevertheless heard noises and called police, who arrived at 5 a.m.
