Akron Public Works Superintendent Daniel R. Huff told the Village Board last week that survey work in connection with a project to deepen the village reservoir in the Town of Bennington is complete.
He said a State Environmental Quality Review is currently under way, and work would start Oct. 1.
A water alert for customers of the village water system, urging conservation measures due to the drought situation, has been in effect since July 26. Two weeks ago, the reservoir was down 67.5 inches. The low point is 49 inches. Officials earlier indicated that the reservoir level is continuing to drop.
Mayor Michael F. Charles, who has been discussing a secondary backup to the Akron water system, said it is "urgent" to move forward with the project. "We cannot afford to wait," he said.
