A Clark Street man who gave a helping hand to a woman roughed up in a domestic dispute on Lombard Street early Friday turned around and helped himself to her possessions, authorities said.
Nothing was out of bounds for 29-year-old Larry Young, who even took the woman's fried chicken from her kitchen, according to Lt. Duane T. Rizzo, police department spokesman.
Young was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of stolen property removed from the residence.
"Young had assisted her in mediating a domestic that involved her significant other and he helped her get medical treatment," Rizzo said. "Then witnesses called the police and said an individual had broken into her house and when officers arrived they found Young."
Broadway Station Officers Noreen Walsh and Stephen Zipp caught Young trying to escape through a basement window at 3 a.m., Rizzo said.
"All property was recovered. It's great the neighbors cared enough to pay attention and call police," the lieutenant added.
