Police Capt. John W. Cross was scheduled to return to work at 7 a.m. today after serving a three-day suspension without pay over a Sept. 10 fireworks incident, Police Chief Neil B. Merritt said.
The 27-year veteran of the department was suspended this week after police officials learned he was at a reunion party for the Lockport High School Class of 1969 in the backyard of a Pine Street home where fireworks were shot off.
Smoldering debris apparently damaged private property in the area, police said.
Merritt said the investigation is on going into the incident and any role Cross, 47, might have played in it. He would not elaborate.
He said the findings would be reviewed by the Board of Police Commissioners and the county district attorney's office.
