Assemblyman Daniel J. Burling, R-Alexander, a member of the Assembly's Agriculture Committee, Friday announced his support for the Northeast Interstate Dairy Compact, which is being considered by Congress.

Burling, whose district includes the southern half of Genesee and all of Wyoming counties, where agriculture, particularly dairy farming, is a major industry, said the price now received by farmers for milk remains at 1979 levels despite increases in feed prices and other operating costs.

He said by joining the dairy compact, farmers would receive an immediate price increase, allowing state farmers to compete with bordering states.

Burling and state Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers, who also supports the pact, will be touring farms in Wyoming and Cattaraugus counties Oct. 6.
