Stanley E. Baker, 85, of Blair Road, a beekeeper who maintained more than 200 hives, died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 1999) in Medina Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
A native of the Town of Ridgeway, Blair worked on area farms when he was a young man. He also worked briefly at the Harrison Radiator plant in Lockport.
He was a foreman for 15 years at Hill's Greenhouses in Shelby, where he built greenhouses. Finally, he was employed by the state Department of Transportation for 10 years until he retired in 1980.
Blair was a member of the former East Shelby Methodist Church and a retired member of Shelby Fire Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed trapping, and he held a state license as a nuisance trapper, working on animal control. He also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, the former Esther Schaal; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
