Smoke damage was "extensive" Monday night following a fire at a Transit Road car dealership, according to the Twin District fire chief.
Firefighters were summoned to Basil Chevrolet, 5111 Transit Road, after sales personnel and customers smelled smoke shortly after 7 p.m., Fire Chief Ronald Rozler said. The fire started in what appeared to be a work station in the parts department, which was closed at the time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Rozler said.
"The fire was out in a couple of minutes," said the chief -- who described fire damage as "very minimal" -- "but there's a tremendous amount of smoke that charged the entire building." Among the smoke-damaged contents are new cars, he said.
A Twin District Fire Company firefighter suffered a knee injury at the scene and was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where shewas expected to be released after treatment, Rozler said.
