Timothy Faveno of Buffalo is this week's first-place winner of SUPER JINGO 904, a trip for two anywhere Continental flies in the continental United States, plus $500.
"The grand prize, wow," said Faveno. "I have been playing this game since the onset of its existence. This is great."
An employee of the Buffalo Parks Department, Faveno gets extra entries from his friends and co-workers. "I play five or six entries a week that I get from my paper, and from co-workers," he said. Faveno drops his entries off in the lobby of The Buffalo News on his way to work. Still unsure of where he will travel, Faveno says his girlfriend, Nancy Sobieniak, will accompany him on the trip.
Other winners are:
Esther Trznadel of Clarence -- Two-night stay at SkyDome Hotel, Toronto.
Richard Hacker of Orchard Park -- Two tickets to five Buffalo Sabres games.
Norma and James Tanevich of Amherst -- Showroom car detail.
Carol Menge of Marilla -- Salvatore's Italian Gardens gift certificate and show tickets.
Winning second place was an added birthday surprise for Ms. Trznadel, who celebrated that event Saturday. "Oh, my goodness, thank you kindly, I appreciate this. I was praying that something good will happen in my life, and this must be it," she said.
Ms. Trznadel is especially excited about her trip because she has friends who live in Toronto. "The last time I was there was to see 'Phantom,' but I love Toronto, and it will be great to visit my friends.
"I am so excited. Years of playing have paid off after all," she said, explaining that this marked her first win after playing for 16 years.
Ms. Trznadel, who will bring a friend with her on the trip, will be treated to a two-night stay at the SkyDome Hotel, breakfast in The Bistro at the SkyDome and tickets to the SkyDome Tour Experience.
Hacker said his third-place prize of two tickets to five Buffalo Sabres games was great. He enjoys hockey and follows the playoffs closely. A retired aircraft maintenance analyst at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, Hacker has been playing the game for about 12 years. He plans to bring neighbors with him to the games.
Mrs. Tanevich said of her fourth-place showroom car detail, "My husband will love that. He has a 1999 Grand Marquis, and I have a 1996 Cougar. Guess who's going to get the detail?"
Explaining their system for playing SUPER JINGO, Mrs. Tanevich said, "We do the entries together. Every night before dinner I call the numbers, and he circles them."
An otherwise bad day was turned around when Mrs. Menge learned of her fifth-place win. "This is the best thing that has happened today. It has really made my day," she said of the Salvatore's Italian Gardens gift certificate and theater tickets.
A first-time winner, Mrs. Menge has been playing off and on for several years. She plans to take her husband for an evening out. "I'm speechless. This is so wonderful," she said. "Salvatore's is very elegant, and I love the theater."
