RUTH B. HEWITT, FIRST WOMAN OFFICER OF M&T BANK

Ruth B. Hewitt, the first woman officer of M&T Bank, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Home after a monthlong illness. She was 90.

A native of Johnstown, Pa., the former Ruth Boehm was a graduate of South Park High School and attended the former Buffalo State Teachers College.

She joined M&T in 1928 and worked there 42 years, becoming a vice president in the trust department in 1953.

Mrs. Hewitt also served as auditor of the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Public Library for 30 years, until 1995.

She was a member of the board of directors of the Bristol Home and a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies of the Scottish Rite.

Her husband of 24 years, Ralph B. Hewitt, died in 1964.

Survivors include a brother, Robert, of Seattle.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grace Lutheran Church, 174 Cazenovia St.
