The Hamburg Natural History Society has scheduled several public outings at its Penn-Dixie fossil site, off Bayview Road, in the next few weeks.
On Sept. 19, a field trip to collect fossils is scheduled at 1 p.m. For a modest fee, anyone can look for and take home 380 million-year-old fossils from the floor of the former quarry.
On Oct. 16, the second annual Earth Science Day and fossil trip will begin at 9 a.m. with fossil collecting, talks and demonstrations on various aspects of geology. Twenty-one groups and organizations will be on site with displays and even drilling demonstrations. And on Oct. 21, an astronomy program will begin at 8 p.m. to view Jupiter and its dark belts.
In addition, the society will be host to a number of visiting groups and is able to arrange school field trips. For school field trip information, call Margaret Hermann at 627-6335. For information about the society or directions to the quarry, call 627-4560.
