HAMBURG PARENTING GROUP SCHEDULES FIRST MEETING

A new parenting group, affiliated with Hamburg's Family Support Center will offer its first information program at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the McKinley Mall community room.

Buffalo State education professor Maureen A. Smith will discuss strategies parents can use to promote appropriate behavior and social skills in their children.

The free program is the first of a series to be offered by the recently-organized "Parent-Child Connection,' an all-volunteer group affiliated with the Family Support Center.

"We want to provide information, resources and skills training for parents,' said vice chair Suzanne McKenney. The Family Support Center offers free family counseling to residents of the Frontier and Hamburg school districts. The Parent-Child Connection was formed to expand preventive "parenting" services to complement the center's counseling role. It hopes to offer programs on child development, social skills, conflict resolution and
effective parent-child
communication.
