SNOWMOBILER KILLED IN CRASH

A Fort Erie man was fatally injured early Wednesday when his snowmobile slammed into a road sign on the west side of Pleasant Beach Road at Michener Road, Niagara Regional Police reported.

Shawn Robins, 37, of Beach Street was taken to Port Colborne General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Robins had been with fellow snowmobilers earlier Tuesday night. When he did not return home, they searched the area, finding him and his snowmobile at the crash site.

Police believe Robins was westbound on Michener some time between 2 and 3 a.m., when he attempted to stop at the stop sign at Pleasant Beach Road. Instead, he slid through the "T" intersection, slamming into the yellow and black checkerboard sign.
