Ruth Mushat Sorrells, 71, a homemaker and retired nurse, died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Canton, Ohio, she came with her family to Buffalo as a young woman and graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School. She attended night school to gain her nursing credentials and worked for several years in area hospitals before being forced to retire because of health problems.

She was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, involved with teaching Sunday school classes and helping with the church's food pantry.

Survivors include two sons, Trent of Indianapolis and Lloyd; a daughter, Noreen Posey of Detroit; two sisters, Juanita Jackson of Cleveland and Dolores Sanders of Detroit; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Philip's Church, 15 Fernhill Ave. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
