A budget committee for the Depew School District met for the first time this week.
Superintendent Robert D. Olczak and department heads discussed what effect transportation and buildings and grounds would have on the budget next year.
The district is estimating it will need an additional $107,000 next year for transportation. That's a 7.7 percent increase over the $1.38 million budgeted for buses and personnel this year. In addition to inflation, the increase is necessary to safely transport students with special needs, Olczak said.
The district also estimates it will need another $31,275 for buildings and grounds. That's a 1.8 percent increase over the $1.74 million budgeted this year, Olczak said.
The budget committee will next meet 7 p.m. Monday in the district boardroom.
