Gerald W. Lord, 77, a retired communications specialist for New York Telephone, died Tuesday (Jan. 26, 1999) in Buffalo General Hospital.
A Cattaraugus native, Lord was a resident of Lakewood Health Care Center, Town of Hamburg.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Lord served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and was aboard the battleship Missouri when Gen. Douglas MacArthur conducted the signing of the peace treaty with Japan in Tokyo Bay.
Lord, formerly of Sandusky, was a life member of Arcade Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion in Hamburg. He retired from New York Telephone in 1981 after working for many years in the Hamburg area.
His wife, Jo Ann Riggs Lord, died in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Nanci Lilga of Hamburg; two stepdaughters, Barbara Childs of West Seneca and Rebecca Borgeson of Grand Island; a stepson, Robert Duance of Arcade; a sister, Eleanor White of Lake Park, Ga.; two grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade. Burial will be in Arcade Rural Cemetery.
