SCHOOL BUS STRIKES TRUCK; BOY AND RIG DRIVER KILLED

A bus carrying children home from two elementary schools apparently ran a stop sign and crashed into a tractor-trailer Monday, killing a boy and the truck driver.

Victor Dixon, 8, and the truck driver, Sammie Hughes, 63, were killed in the collision, which flipped the bus onto its side. Initial reports incorrectly listed two children dead.

The bus driver, Deborah Colletti, 37, was in critical condition.

One child was injured critically, while 14 other pupils suffered injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to concussions. Seven were admitted to hospitals.

Some children were removed from the bus through escape hatches, while others were cut from the wreckage.
