A peace rally will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Ledgeview Elementary School, 5250 Old Goodrich Road, Clarence.
The rally will kick off "A Season of Non-Violence," a 64-day campaign to educate youngsters in peaceful methods of dealing with problems at school, at home and in the world.
County Executive Gorski will proclaim Jan. 30 to April 4 as "A Season for Non-Violence in Erie County." The dates mark the anniversaries of the assassinations of the 20th century's two greatest advocates of non-violence -- Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
Students at the school have developed 64 action steps, one for each day of the campaign, and will sign a pledge promising to perform a designated good deed for the day. Teachers and staff also will sign the pledge.
"Peace is a choice," said Claudia Stachowski, a Ledgeview teacher and organizer of the program. "World peace begins one step, one day, one
person at a time."
