Could News columnist Donn Esmonde be any more wrong when he states that the "enduring popularity" of President Clinton is a "sign that America is a nation of grown-ups"? The acceptance of a lying, cheating president who holds the public in contempt are signs of maturity? A president who walks out of Easter Sunday service with his Bible in one hand and his family by his side and then goes to the Oval Office for illicit sexual relations is one to be honored and revered?
If Esmonde is correct, then I am glad to say that I have not "grown up" to the national level. I hope for this country's sake that our children never "grow up" to accept these standards. Fortunately, my 4-year-old is still young enough to recognize right and wrong.
