Stephanie Romain scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as Niagara University's women's hockey team defeated Yale, 5-1, at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.

Lisa Myers' goal at the final horn cost NU goalie Tania Pinelli her first collegiate shutout. Pinelli had 31 saves.

Brooke Bradburn, Amanda Reid and Barbara Prall also scored for the Purple Eagles (5-12-0, 4-12-0 in ECAC), who won their second in a row over the Bulldogs (3-13-2, 1-13-2). NU won, 4-1, Saturday.

Bradburn had a pair of assists as did Julie Forsyth.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Amy Getman's 32-point performance helped Niagara (6-12, 4-6) complete a successful two-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference road swing with an 88-75 triumph at Fairfield.

Getman, a 6-foot sophomore from Herkimer, made 13 of 22 shots from the field and all six of her free throws. She also led all rebounders with 10.

The Purple Eagles had three other double-figure scorers -- Sheryl Klick with 19, Meaghan Coleman with 17 and Douglasse Sieber with 10.

Friday, Niagara won at Siena, the first MAAC defeat for the Saints.

Canisius (6-12, 4-6) bowed in a MAAC game against Siena (12-6, 9-1) in Albany, 76-67. Kelley Hayes (16), Maggie Guidry (14), Jill Wilson (12) and Shauna Geronzin (12 points, 11 rebounds) led the Griffs. Malanie Halker had 25 and Sacha Baker 23 for the Saints.

George Washington (12-5, 6-2), an Atlantic-10 power, had an easy time with St. Bonaventure (7-11, 1-7), defeating the Bonnies, 95-41, in Washington, D.C.

Hilary Waltman scored 19 for Bona. Elisa Aguilar had 20 for the Colonials, who went into the game tied for second with Xavier in the A-10's West Division.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: A final Erie Community College shot with 2 seconds remaining missed and the Kats (13-4) suffered a 61-60 loss at Essex CC (10-4) in Newark, N.J. Jamar Corbett (Traditional) was high scorer for coach Reggie Witherspoon's team with 15 points. Jeff Williams (Grover Cleveland) added 14 and Alex Smith had 12 rebounds.

Niagara County CC (11-8) trailed by as many as 32 before closing the final count to 97-87 in a loss at the Junior College of Albany (10-9). John Walker (McKinley) had 29 points and 20 rebounds for NCCC. Rickie Latham (Seneca) and Tishawn Campbell (Grover Cleveland) scored 15 each while Charles Tomlinson (Niagara Falls) contributed 14 points and eight assists. Durron Williams added 12 points and 13 boards.

MEN'S HOCKEY: Canisius (6-9-5, 4-7-5) and Quinnipiac (Conn.) College played to their second straight 3-3 overtime tie in a MAAC game at Dann Memorial Rink.

Seth Wiener scored at 9:50 of the third period to even it for the Griffs.

Tim Warrilow and Matt Shewchuk scored in the first period to give Canisius a 2-1 lead after a goal by Matt Goodrich of the Braves.

Quinnipiac (14-2-2, 12-2-2) got second-period goals by Brian Olson and Mike Ruggiero before Wiener tied it.

Canisius goalie Bob Janosz had 26 saves. J.C. Wells had 33 for the Braves.
