WILLIAM W. MURPHY

William W. Murphy, 85, who owned and operated William Murphy Barber Shop here for more than 50 years, died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) in Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Center, Lockport, after a long illness.

Born in Lockport, he served in the Army during World War II.

Murphy was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, was past president of the Newfane Lions Club and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of Brounshidle Post 205, American Legion, Town of Tonawanda.

A sports enthusiast and an avid golfer, he followed high school sports.

His wife, Genevieve McCormick Murphy, died in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Morello; a son, Michael of Lockport; a brother, John of Mooresville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bridget's Church, 3455 Ewings Road. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
