WEGMANS, MONRO MUFFLER FORM MARKETING LINK

Wegmans supermarket shoppers can add discounted automotive services to their lists through a new partnership between the food store chain and Monro Muffler Brake.

Wegmans Shoppers Club card holders will receive discounts on all services at more than 500 Monro Muffler Brake and Service and Speedy Auto Service locations under a two-year promotional partnership.

Robert Gross, president and chief executive officer of Rochester-based Monro, said the Wegmans link fits with other marketing initiatives the company is developing.

"We are excited about this strategic partnership with Wegmans as it will reach an attractive consumer demographic and contribute incrementally to store traffic and sales," Gross said.

Shopper Club members will be able to save on a number of products and services offered by Monro Muffler Brake. For example, this week members can present their Wegmans cards at the automotive chain to get $6 off a New York or Pennsylvania state vehicle inspection. Card holders are also entitled to 15 percent off a variety of other services.

This is not the first opportunity Wegmans customers have had to save on automotive items. The Rochester-based food company has an existing relationship with Valvoline Instant Oil Change to offer savings linked to the 10-year-old loyalty shopping program.

Wegmans estimates that its customers have saved over $4.5 million at Valvoline using their Shoppers Club cards in recent years.

Wegmans partners with a variety of non-grocery businesses, including movie theaters and theme parks to offer its shoppers extra savings.

Wegmans currently operates 57 stores with annual sales of $2.3 billion.

Monro Muffler Brake operates a chain of stores providing automotive undercar repair services in the United States. The company currently operates 532 stores and has 14 dealer locations in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and 14 other states.
