Richard W. Ernst of Cheektowaga, a National Fuel serviceman for 40 years, died Wednesday (Jan. 20, 1999) in Kresge Facility at Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga after a long illness. He was 59.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Ernst attended Buffalo schools and graduated from Seneca Vocational High School.
He was a member of Heavy Attack Squadron I on the USS Independence from 1958 to 1962.
He married Jamie O'Donnell in 1962. They recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary.
Ernst began his career at National Fuel in August of 1956 and retired in 1996.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clarence Center; Cleveland Hill Volunteer Fire Department; and Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served with the fire police.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, William of Newfane; a daughter, Jean Kaczmarek of Depew; his mother, Matilda of Cheektowaga; a brother, Robert of Cheektowaga; a sister, Lynda Griffen of Cheektowaga; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Urban Brothers Funeral Home, 5895 Goodrich Road, Clarence Center, followed by prayers at 1 in Zion Lutheran Church, 9535 Clarence Center Road, Clarence Center.
