NEWFANE MAN ACCUSED OF SCHEME TO DEFRAUD

A Main Street man was charged with first-degree scheme to defraud Thursday after he charged several people for computer services and equipment that he failed provide, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.

Matthew Daugherty, 27, of 2770 Main St., owner of the now defunct Matt's Custom Computers, was arrested at his home by Investigators Steven Kingsbury and Mark Driess, deputies said.

Kingsbury said Daugherty is accused of taking money and computer equipment from several customers and then failing to either repair the equipment or provide them with the equipment or service they paid for between Sept. 1, 1998, and Jan. 6, 1999.
