BUFFALO WOMAN, 18, STRUCK AND KILLED BY CAR

An 18-year-old Buffalo woman was struck and killed by a teen-ager's car several houses away from her home on Roosevelt Avenue Thursday night, authorities said.

Tonyetta Baker was one of three pedestrians walking in the street when a car driven by Steven J. Lewandowski, 19, of Lancaster hit her from behind at 8:10 p.m., according to Lt. Robert J. Penders, commander of the Accident Investigation Unit.

"The eastbound car had yielded to opposing traffic and then pulled back into the traffic lane, and she was the outermost of the three pedestrians," Penders said. "She was dressed in dark clothing."

Ms. Baker was pronounced dead in Erie County Medical Center. No charges were filed against Lewandowski by investigating Officer Daniel Sullivan.
