The Amherst Town Board this week held open a public hearing on a proposal to rezone a parcel for condominiums at 5462 Sheridan Drive.
The Town Board will hear additional comments at a board meeting on Feb. 1 in Town Hall.
The board is expected to vote on the proposal after that hearing.
Joseph Rubino has asked the town to rezone a 2.6-acre parcel from residential-3 to multifamily-4A so he can build seven single-story buildings with a total of 14 units.
Initially, enough surrounding landowners signed a petition to require a supermajority vote to approve the rezoning. That would have meant that six of seven board members would have to agree to rezone the land.
However, Assessor Harry Williams on Tuesday told the board that some signatures had been withdrawn, so only a simple majority is required. A supermajority vote could still be required if additional property owners sign a petition.
