A 2.5-carat diamond ring was stolen off the finger of an elderly Lockport Memorial Hospital patient while he slept in his second-floor room over the weekend, Officer Richard A. Provenzano said Monday.

Provenzano said the ring was valued at $7,500 to $8,000. Harold E. Pierce, 95, of Lake Avenue was the victim of the theft, reported Monday by a relative.
