REPORT CARD - WEEK 13

Bills 21, Patriots 25

RUNNING GAME

BILLS (C-): Smith ran well enough to keep Pats honest. It was a far cry from huge day of two weeks ago, but Pats have good run defense.

PATS (F): Pats have no ground game. They are totally one-dimensional and it will catch up to them soon.

PASSING GAME

BILLS (A): Moulds proved he's a big-time player against Ty Law, the Pats' star corner. Flutie made big play after big play to keep drives alive.

PATS (A-): Bledsoe showed his toughness by playing with injured finger. It was him against the world due to impotent run game. He's a star.

RUN DEFENSE

BILLS (A): Bills stuffed Edwards time after time, then Pats gave up on running the ball.

PATS (B): Pats were determined to prevent repeat of two weeks ago when they were steamrolled. They were healthier and did decent job.

PASS DEFENSE

BILLS (C-): We're blaming the officials for the final drive. Horrendous. Coates hurt the Bills. What else is new? Pass rush was weak early, strong late.

PATS (D): Pats blitzed a lot but only sacked Flutie once. Corners had fits trying to handle Moulds and Reed.

SPECIAL TEAMS

BILLS (F): First half was poor. A penalty on KO return, a missed field goal, two short punts and bad coverage on 30-yard Pats punt return.

PATS (C): Canty made good return on a booming punt by Mohr. Vinatieri hit from 44, missed from 47.

COACHING

BILLS (B): Bills outgained 'em, 428 to 259. Hard to blame Phillips for incompetence by the striped shirts.

PATS (B): Carroll had his defense geared up to avoid a running disaster. And they did. He's smart enough to just let Drew do it.
