Mildred Grelick, 78, mother of Amherst Supervisor Susan J. Grelick, died Friday (Nov. 27, 1998) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness that followed a long battle with cancer.
The former Mildred Milewitz, a native of Buffalo, attended Hutchinson-Central High School. During World War II, she worked for the War Rationing Board, distributing gas-rationing stamps.
In 1945, she married Robert A. Grelick, owner of Bomi Gemstone Importers. Known for her generosity and support of numerous charitable organizations, Mrs. Grelick was a life member of Hadassah and the Brandeis University Women's Committee. She was a member of the Amherst Senior Center, Amherst Democratic Committee and Temple Shaarey Zedek.
She was a constant supporter, active volunteer and astute adviser for her daughter's campaigns.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert of Amherst; her daughter, Susan of Amherst; a son, Gary of Elma; and a brother, Brownie Milewitz of Kenmore.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Delaware Park Memorial Chapel, 2141 Delaware Ave.
