Gerry Faust, former University of Notre Dame football coach, will be featured speaker at the annual Retirement Fund for Religious Luncheon at noon Friday in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.
The luncheon, sponsored by Buffalo attorney Edward C. Cosgrove, kicks off the annual Retirement Fund for Religious campaign. Tickets are $20. They may be reserved by calling Cosgrove's office at 854-2211.
The Retirement Fund campaign, a national event, takes the form of a special collection at weekend Masses. This year it will be held Dec. 12 and 13 in parishes throughout the eight-county Buffalo Catholic Diocese.
Regarded as an outstanding Catholic layman, Faust gained national prominence as football coach at Moeller Catholic High School in Cincinnati.
As head coach of the Fighting Irish from 1981 through 1985, Faust had a record of 30-26-1 and took his teams to two bowl appearances.
Faust currently is assistant vice president of public affairs and development at the University of Akron, Ohio.
During the retirement fund's first 10 years, Catholics in the Buffalo Diocese have contributed $9.5 million to it.
