The seven prize-winning floats at last Saturday's Festival of Lights opening parade have been announced by parade and Festival board chairman Jerald I. Wolfgang.
The Chairman's Award, for the best use of the theme, was presented to Niagara County Community College's float, entitled "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers." This year's theme is "March of the Toy Soldiers."
The Mayor's Award was given to the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, for its entry called "Niagara's International Winter Festivals of Lights." The award is for the float that best depicts the international spirit of cooperation between the two cities of Niagara Falls.
The New York Power Authority took the Electric Light Award for the best use of light, in its floatentitled "Sleigh Ride to Grandma's House."
The Scottsville Fire Department copped the Board of Directors Award for the best-decorated fire truck.
The board's award for the best use of lights on a fire truck went to the Frontier Volunteer Fire Company, Wheatfield.
The Police Athletic League won the Spirit of the Festival Award for the float that best captures the meaning of the festival.
The Spirit of Volunteerism Award, for the float best depicting community involvement, went to Cub Scout Troop 837, Town of Niagara.
In all, 34 floats were entered in this year's parade.
