Neva M. Yaw, 86, a registered nurse who had retired from Buffalo General Hospital in 1973, died unexpectedly Sunday (Nov. 22, 1998) in Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, Calif., after becoming ill while visiting her granddaughters.
Born in Spartansburg, Pa., she studied nursing at the Buffalo General Hospital Nursing School and received her license in 1935.
She was in charge of the outpatient clinic at Buffalo General Hospital for many years and trained numerous interns.
She had lived on the West Side until moving to Ocala, Fla., in 1979. In Ocala, she was a member of Silver Springs Shores Presbyterian Church and, for many years, served as treasurer of the the Ocala Chapter of AARP, formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons.
She also was a past board member of the Ocala East Villas Homeowners Association and a member of the Buffalo General Hospital Alumni Association.
Survivors include Edward Biggins of Ocala, whom she considered a son, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in the Downtown Chapel of Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
