James Hassett, the North Collins teacher accused of kicking a student, has been ordered to return to court Dec. 7 to face a harassment charge.
Hassett has been placed on paid administrative leave by the North Collins Central Schools while the School Board completes its own investigation of the case. The alleged incident took place Nov. 5, and a charge was filed Nov. 6.
Hassett was arraigned Monday night in North Collins Town Court on the charge, which is classified as a violation, a step below a misdemeanor.
He entered a not guilty plea.
If, after meeting between his lawyer and the prosecutor, a trial is deemed necessary, it would be scheduled Jan. 11 in Town Court.
The police complaint was lodged against Hassett by Elizabeth Logan, who said Hassett followed her son, Joseph, and a group of students from the North Collins High School and then kicked her son, a 15-year-old sophomore, just below the tailbone.
