L. Durwood Kenyon, former operator of a landmark gas station in Chaffee and a skilled mechanist at various area businesses, died Wednesday (Nov. 25, 1998) in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville. He was 85.
Born in Barrington and a former resident of Arcade, he was most recently lived in Chaffee. Kenyon was a member of the Chaffee-Sardinia Senior Citizens and a past member of the Arcade and the Chaffee-Sardinia fire departments. He was also very active in the Chaffee Community Baptist Church.
Kenyon worked for many years at the Motorola plant in Arcade, retiring in 1983. Before that, he owned and operated the Kendall Gas Station in Chaffee, which remains under new management. He also had worked for the Forestry Department in East Concord, as well as the former K.R. Wilson firm in Arcade and Buffalo Arms in Buffalo.
Survivors include are a son, Larry, and a brother, Ronald of Chaffee.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Chaffee Community Baptist Church on Allen Street. Burial will be in Sardinia Cemetery.
