STATE POLICE CRACK DOWN ON SEAT BELT VIOLATIONS

State troopers gave motorists 22 tickets for seat belt violations -- one for an unrestrained child -- at two traffic checkpoints here between 11 and
3 p.m. Tuesday, Lewiston Station Commander Sgt. Philip J. Bourque said.

Bourque said troopers gave out a total of 78 vehicle and traffic tickets at checkpoints on Witmer and on Military roads as part of the national "Operation ABC Mobilization" road safety campaign also known as "America Buckles Up
Children."

Troopers in Lockport also wrote three tickets for seat belt violations during routine patrols, Sgt. Larry Brauer said.

Bourque said the other citations troopers handed out here were for violations, such as having excessively tinted windows. One person was charged with criminal possession of stolen property for having stolen license plates on his vehicle, he said.
