A West Side man described by police as a violent drug dealer could face more than 24 years in prison as a result of his conviction on six felony narcotics counts.
A federal court jury Tuesday convicted Luis "Little Danny" Cruz, 21, of Vermont Street of all the counts against him.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Duszkiewicz said Cruz also faces charges that he took part in a drive-by shooting and that he fired shots at his 16-year-old girlfriend and her baby earlier this year.
Depending on District Judge Richard J. Arcara's interpretation of sentencing guidelines, Cruz could face a prison term of 24 years or more, the prosecutor said.
Defense lawyer John Lavin attempted to show during the weeklong trial that dishonest informants and insufficient police work led to the crack cocaine charges against Cruz.
