Dorothy White, 88, who operated businesses on Buffalo's East Side with her husband in the 1960s and 1970s, died Saturday (Nov. 21, 1998) in Episcopal Church Home after a long illness.
Born Dorothy Turner in Muskogee, Okla., she went to school in St. Louis and married Edward White in 1938. They moved to Buffalo in 1940.
They established White's Moving Co., a furniture moving business, in 1964. In 1965, they opened White's Used Furniture Store on Jefferson Avenue at Riley Street. In 1970, they opened White's Soul Food Restaurant at Jefferson and Woodlawn avenues. She closed the businesses shortly after her husband's death in 1972.
She was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara; a sister, Frances Young of St. Louis; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Friday in Lombardo Funeral Home, 102 Linwood Ave. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
